And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
(Matthew 9:10-13 - ESV)
God isn't like us human beings who refuse to forgive at times and who would rather go the way of division instead of reconciliation. So while other people may not forgive you or accept your apology or attempt to make amends, know that God is not that way. If we are willing to turn away from our sins, believe in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and the resurrection, and continue to have faith in the Lord, God is willing to forgive us for our sins. He is willing to give us yet another chance.
If indeed there is no room for repentance in your life, you would know it just as Judas knew it and just as King Saul knew it. But understand that these men came to the place that they did based on their own unwillingness to repent during the period of time that God afforded them. Please do not make the same mistake these two Biblical characters did. If you are convicted in your heart for your sins, repent today for not even the next second is guaranteed.
THE PROBLEM
as it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands;
no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
(Romans 3:10-12 – ESV)
THE SOLUTION
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
(John 3:16-17 – ESV)
For those of us not current entangled in any sin, we must remember that we who are believers have all had to come to repentance at different points in our lives. And we expected God to forgive us so why would we not be willing to aid in the reconciliation between others and God with as much love as God has shown to us. Yes, people may have done some terrible things to us in our lives but understand, we have done terrible things to God and yet we pleaded for His mercy.
So for those of you who don't believe there is any hope, Jesus Christ can be your Hope. He can deliver you. He can rescue you from eternal damnation and from the clutches of Satan. As God in human flesh, He can restore your relationship with God. It's not too late. Salvation could be closer than you believe. Yet the choice is yours.
