And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
(Genesis 2:18-24 - KJV)

One man, one woman. This is the way that God intended it from the beginning. But a growing number of professing Christians are starting to see it otherwise. It’s becoming commonplace to read an article about a homosexual who has been ordained as a minister of a church or to hear about homosexuals who believe their same-sex orientation is a gift from God. But what does the Bible say?

Understand that this isn’t an article to condemn homosexuals. All of us have fallen short of the glory of God, aka the standard of God and have sinned against Him. A person can not call himself/herself a believer in Jesus Christ without having come to this conclusion. So it’s not about trying to present something in the spirit of being better than homosexuals but simply sharing the truth.

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
(Leviticus 18:22 - ESV)

This verse is directed to males but the point is very clear. Same sex romance is an abomination to God. A quick defiinition for abomination is something that goes against nature and should not be. The Lord is giving a clear command to avoid homosexuality and bisexuality. Reading in context, he also gives clear commands to not marry blood relatives.

So what is said many times to try and refute this truth? Is it that this command was only for the old covenant and is abolished within the new covenant in Jesus Christ? Let’s go the New Testament and read some scriptures dealing with homosexuality and see if it is permissable by God in our time.

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
(1 Corinthians 6:9-11 - NASB)

There is a lot of meat in these 3 verses other than just the clear command that homosexuals will not go to heaven and will not experience eternal life. The passages also point out that the same is true of fornicators (a same-sex union will never be recognized in the eyes of God as a marriage or legitimate relationship so it ends up being fornication), the effeminate (God does not condone men acting feminine and women acting masculine) and idolators (to pursue a same-sex relationship is to make that person your god).

Furthermore, the Bible points out that when we are saved, we do not do those things anymore. That’s why the phrase “Such were some of you” is indicating that type of behavior and lifestyle in the past tense. If you truly are a Christian and are truly following Christ, there is no way that you can continue to engage in the homosexual lifestyle but you will be brought to repentance. Just like murder, unforgiveness, hatred, envy, bearing false witness, homosexuality is sin in the eyes of God, no matter how much the world attempts to justify it. Indeed the Bible is true when it says “Do not be deceived.”

But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.
(Ephesians 5:3 - ESV)

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
(Galatians 5:19-21 - ESV)

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."
(Revelation 21:8 - ESV)

If we consult the Bible, we will see that there is no way that we can come to the conclusion that God embraces homosexuality without ignoring what the text actually says. Indeed we live in a relative society where absolute truth is frowned upon and where homosexuality is embraced more and more but it doesn’t change what the word of God clearly says.

If I am an unrepentant murder, I will go to hell if I don’t repent. If I am an unrepentant liar, I will go to hell if I don’t repent. If I am an unrepentant sorcerer or witch, I will go to hell if I don’t repent. And the same is true with homosexuality. If I am an unrepentant practicing homosexual, then I will go to hell. Remember, it’s not about what I, you or anybody else thinks, it’s about what God thinks. He will judge us at the end of our lives.

But there is a way out for you if you are a homosexual just like there was also a way out of my sins. Repent (turn away) of homosexuality in your heart and turn to the salvation of Jesus Christ, who not only will forgive you and wash away your sins but will also give you the ability through His Spirit to overcome your homosexual temptations. God loved you enough to allow His Son Jesus Christ to suffer on the cross for your sins and mine so that we could have our sins forgiven and be made right with Him. The Lord can and will deliver you if you desire it. But it’s your choice.

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
(Romans 1:21-27 - ESV)

The more we resist Jesus Christ, the more we welcome judgment on ourselves. This is a lesson for all of us, not just homosexuals. Whether you choose to repent and believe in Jesus Christ will not stop me from loving you. But remember, it is the Lord we all ultimately have to answer to, not each other.  Consider these things.
