The Interfaith Movement is alive and well. Presenting itself as a solution for peace and harmony among mankind, people of different religious beliefs are willing to disregard their differences and try to find as many similarities to come together on. On the surface, it looks like a very good thing as people of different religious beliefs dialogue and try to work together on the world’s issues. But is it as harmless as we have been led to believe?

Unfortunately, it is not and I can tell you this from personal experience combined with the truth from the Bible. This movement is a rather dangerous one spiritually for those who seek to follow Christ and endure in the faith. At its root is a desire to make God secondary and instead make man primary in order for everyone to be on one accord. But the problem is that the true faith would never allow a believer to be a part of something such as this.

We need to recognize that the goal of the Interfaith Movement is to create a “spiritual” unity among people regardless of what their core beliefs are. I know this because for my job as a journalist, I recently had to cover an “interfaith service.” In this service, professing Christians, followers of Judaism and followers of Islam came together for a combined spiritual experience. People think that it isn’t a big deal because everyone involved seems to be happy and getting along great. And that’s what Satan wants. For if man will stand on his own emotions rather than God’s truth, this is what happens:

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
(Proverbs 14:12 - ESV)

In this article, we are going to break down why the idea of “interfaith” is dangerous to a follower of Christ and to those of you who are a part of this movement, this article isn’t to condemn but to enlighten you to the ramifications of what you are doing. When we are not careful as believers, we can fall into the snares of Satan and I pray that you will consider this information and be willing to repent.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,
“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
Therefore go out from their midst,
and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch no unclean thing;
then I will welcome you,
and I will be a father to you,
and you shall be sons and daughters to me,
says the Lord Almighty.”
(2 Corinthians 6:14-18 - ESV)

The words of Paul tell us that a believer in Jesus Christ is not supposed to be yoked with unbelievers. In essence, it means that a believer should not consider an unbeliever to have the same nature as he/she does. As a result, a believer and unbeliever should not be unified spiritually. And what reasons does Paul give? Because righteousness isn’t the same as unrighteousness, light isn’t the same as darkness and Christ isn’t the same as Belial. They are opposites and naturally go against each other. It’s like trying to mix good and evil.

Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?

How can believers and unbelievers be spiritually unified when believers are those who inherit the great promises of God through Jesus, are God’s children, are promised eternal life and will experience everlasting fellowship with the Lord while unbelievers are those who do not inherit the promises of God because they reject Jesus, are God’s enemies, will be judged to a second death and be eternally separated from the Lord? It would be like Jesus and Satan being on the same team.

What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God...

Let’s fully consider the contrast being made here. A believer in Christ is likened to a “temple of God.” But the unbeliever is likened to an “idol.” Why is this? Because believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit (God’s presence) as the temple of God made without human hands. The temple in the Old Testament was what it was because the presence of God dwelt there. And remember what happened when unholy things were brought into the temple?

For the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, declares the Lord. They have set their detestable things in the house that is called by my name, to defile it.
(Jeremiah 7:30 - ESV)

If God wasn’t pleased when the Israelites in the Old Testament brought detestable things into His temple, how much more He isn’t pleased with us (as His temples) when we spiritually align ourselves with that which He finds to be detestable? The problem with those who hold to Judaism and to Islam is that they deny Jesus Christ and His provision for salvation. This is a flat out fact that we can not overlook. How important is it? Consider some scriptures from 1 John:

Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.
(1 John 2:22-23 - ESV)

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
(1 John 4:1-3 - ESV)

Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son.
(1 John 5:5-10 - ESV)

According to John’s words, those who refuse to believe in Jesus Christ are antichrists.  While in many circles, we have those that are waiting for one “Antichrist,” the fact is that anyone who does not believe in Jesus is anti-Christ according to the Bible. And what spiritual  business do the Christian and antichrist have spiritually when they are spiritual opposites? And why would we validate the other religions when John 14:6 clearly tells us that Jesus is the only way to God.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, when we spiritually align ourselves with those who do not believe in Jesus, it is the same as a Christian trying to make peace with the devil. And what happens as a result of that is that the believer begins to compromise and distances himself/herself from Christ while becoming more of what Satan wants him/her to be. The compromise that characterizes the Interfaith Movement was not something that the believers of the early church would have settled for. In fact, great tribulation came to those who were unwilling to compromise and would stand up for Jesus at all costs.
