SUMMARY: The kingdom of God is something that we are experiencing now in part as believers in Jesus Christ. There are many things that we should realize as a result of this fact. Because our Lord reigns on the throne, we can have peace and joy in this life right now!
•The kingdom of God is wherever Jesus is meaning that we have access to the blessings that come with that now (Luke 17:20-21)
•Peace and joy are meant to be enjoyed by Christians in this life in part and in fullness in the life to come
•Jesus Christ is the Source of our Peace (John 14:27, John 16:33,
Ephesians 2:14-17)
•Peace and joy make up the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13,
Galatians 5:22-23)
•How can Christians obtain this peace and joy?
•By repenting of sin and being right with God (Romans 5:1)
•We can’t even begin to serve the Lord if our conscience isn’t right (Hebrews 10:19-22)
•By having our minds renewed through His Spirit (Romans 12:2)
•Before we came to Christ, our minds were conformed to the world and our lives were dictated by our flesh (Ephesians 4:22-24)
•But now, we are to be mindful of the things of God and realize that our very reason of being created is to first and foremost glorify Him. (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
•By seeing that this life cannot compare to the life to come (Matthew 16:24-26)
•Paul could have peace and joy no matter what he went through because he was not hanging on to this life (Acts 16:25-26, 2 Corinthians 4:8-11, 2 Corinthians 11:24-28, Philippians 4:11-13)
James looks at challenges as reason to take joy (James 1:2-3)
Peter says it is “good” to suffer for Christ (1 Peter 4:12-14)
•Jesus wants us to have peace and He promised His disciples that He would give it to them before He went to the cross (John 14:27)
